Dear people who made this exchange possible, principal of the school, teachers, students and parents

Good afternoonBeijing! (samen)

I’m Shirley one of the participants of the Belgian delegation. I’mone of the principals of a secondary in Blankenberge called Maerlant.

I’m Brecht. I’m a student of the Maerlant-school and also son of Shirley.

That is one of the reasons why this exchange is even more unique for us.

I’m Fien. I’m a student of the other school in Blankenberge, namely Sint Pieters-Sint Jozef college.

Living together with a Chinese family  … we didn’t know what to expect … other habits, what will the food be like, another way of living. That is one of the reasons that makes this exchange so special … this integration is an enrichment. We were treated like kings and queens! I’m sure that this friendship will last for ever. A great thank you to all the parents, the host brothers and sisters and the rest of the family to make us feel at home! A particular thank to our host family’s … thank you Kelly, her husband and her lovely daughters

Thank you Leonard, his mum and his father.

Thank you, Tina and Irene and both of their families

The Chinese lessons were very interesting. Yoga wasn’t my cup of tea but I tried to do my bestI wasn’t the only one who couldn’t do the exercises properly. We laughed a lot!

Another challenge for me and the group were several new and traditional sports and dances. But we managed itDuring the creative lessons everybody was very concentrated to book a beautiful resultI’m glad that we learned how to fly an airplane 。。。if necessary we can give the pilot a hand ;-)Last but not least we learned some Chinese words … I want to thank all the teachers :

Sjeisje (Xièxiè) lǎoshīmen (bedankt leraren) … even buigen?

On our first day we went to visit temple of heaven and the forbidden city. It was nice to see how the group of our students was enthousiastic to join the different sportdisciplines in the corridor. We practiced diabolo, we played softball and we waved with the fanders

This dqy we were blessed because we visited the temple of heaven on a rainy day in spring We hope that we can share this fortune with all of you.

Our last outdoor activity was a tea ceremony … it was a nice experience and I enjoyed it very much because we drank on the good health of everybody … that is what we wish to your all.

At Tuesday evening we went, with a group of teachers to a hotpot restaurant It was a harmful evening with a lot of talking, laughing and exchanging issues of teachers. At the end of the evening someone of the restaurant was juggling with noodles … we were lucky because it means that we will live a long life.

On the family day we took the subway to go to the Hu Tong. Then it was even more obvious that Beijing is very crowdy. Go shopping with Martine made it a busy afternoon. Shop in, shop out, always searching for exclusive Chinese things and there are a lot of special things in the Hu tong. We also visited a cosy restaurant … we lunched on the top of the roof and enjoyed the nice weather! A time with friends … a time to remember.

I will not forget the trip to the great wall. When I was at a certain point on the wall, I saw an attraction that took my attention. Some cars to go down … a nice experience because I like speed. Together with Laura we let us go! We didn’t arrive where we made an appointment with the group, so we needed to go up again and time was running up. So with an hour of delay we joined the group again. I want to say sorry once more because we made some of you anxious … this was not my intention. On the other hand to get lost is a challenge on its own … I made some good decisions and I learned of it.

I also learned a lot by staying in Leonards family, to adjust yourself it is a lot easier if you understand each other, do things together, appreciate each other. I’m looking forward to see you in Belgium soon!

This year is the second time I participated in this student exchangeThat means that I hosted 2 Chinese friends. The first time I couldn’t come to China because of a surgery. A few days ago I saw my first Chinese friend again. It was very nice to see her and how she was changed.

This year there is also a girl, called Fleur, who couldn’t come to China. Hopefully she will come next year.

Because there was a Chinese student who didn’t have a Belgian friend, I stayed a bit with Tina and a bit with Irene.

I adore China and it’s culture, especially the food. There are a few things I learned during this exchange. This exchange taught me how to be responsible. Not only for myself but also for the others. I learned how to handle difficult situations that I’m not used to.

I also got to know a different culture … a very beautiful one. I hope that the Chinese students that will come to Belgium will have as much fun as I did. I hope they will emerge themselves In our culture and traditions too.

We are sure, we are going home with a lot of wisdom, new friendships, big story’s, …

Thanks to everyone for making this exchange possible!
